Podcast: Ariel made it around Ireland!
For the last two summers in a row, the weather in the North Atlantic has been so unstable that only one kayaker made it around Ireland each summer. Last summer, that one paddler was Ariel Gazarian, an American living in Dublin who took the trip in stages, starting and finishing in Bullock Harbour. Her lap took 123 days, 68 of which were paddling days.
Last summer, during her trip, I joined Ariel for some sea miles when she rounded Mizen Head during a brief weather window that slammed shut behind her as soon as she got around Mizen and through Dursey sound—two cruxes of the Atlantic coast.
