Eventually, you get so addicted to saltwater that you end up spending your rest day soaking in it…
Last week, the Wild Atlantic Seaweed Baths were in town. Dominique and I booked a time slot and spent an hour soaking in an old whiskey barrel full of heated seawater and seaweed, getting out occasionally for a quick dip in the cold Bay before warming up again in the barrel. Such a good time, an experience I’d recommend to anyone traveling on the Wild Atlantic Way.
Over the weekend I met up with a friend I’ve been paddling with since we were kids. We went at an easy, rest week pace to a little cove along Sheep’s Head where we got out the camping stove and Aeropress and caught up over coffee in tin mugs. We took no bearings, I left my heart rate monitor at home. We just hugged the coast, enjoying the flat calm and the last few hours of Sunday.
If you’re doing it right, you’ll need rest days…
The best rest days are the ones your body actually needs. When we went to the seaweed baths, I was coming off a two-week run of perfect weather with back-to-back day trips and two-a-days sessions before and after work. I needed a good soak.
Thank you 3fe Coffee!
I am thrilled to announce that 3fe coffee will be providing the coffee for The Lap next summer. I already start my day with their outstanding single-origin roasts, brewed in an Aeropress. This ritual is going to sustain me on long days and cold starts.
Thanks for reading,
