Iβve been meaning to write a gratitude post since I changed into dry clothes on the last day of the trip.
But I keep putting it offβ¦
The thought of leaving someone out puts me in a cold sweat. At the same time, I wonder if it dilutes my gratitude to try mentioning everyone, every kind word from interested folks on shore, every interrogative thumbs up from trawlers and tour boats surprised to see a kayak so far out.
As I train for a second attempt, my competitive side tells me that βthank yous,β like celebrations, are for the end of a safe and successful trip and not beforeββhalf toxic, half true.
Iβm grateful forβ¦
Dominique, for all the love, support, patience, and worry. This trip would be easier but emptier if I didnβt miss her so much while Iβm out there.
Family, friends, blog readers, and everyone who watched the little dot move on the GPS tracker.
My paddling mentors for their wisdom, high standards, and patience with endless questions.
The Irish sea kayaking community in West Cork and beyond. Thereβs a culture here of giving back to the sport that helps everyone learn more and be safer than any of us would be on our own. Itβs more like a tribe or a family than a club.
The books, blogs, trip reports, and documentaries about how others have done this trip.
My sponsors (see below). I have everything I need, and Iβm never hypothermic or hungryββthanks to GoreTex from Kokatat and bars and nut butters from Resilient Nutrition.
The Bay and the Atlantic in my backyard.
The dawn session this morning and the seal that followed me home.π¦
As alwaysβ¦ Thank you, Team Fox donors! π¦
Thank you, donors to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsonβs Research
Thanks for reading,
-Charlie
