Charlie, so disappointed for you, but this is definitely the right decision and proud of you for making it! Take good care of yourself and live to paddle another day!
Hey Charlie! I understand that your disappointment must but very high but your health is precious! You will continue soon...and we will be with you then again! Take the time you need.
I'm feeling your disappointment. Not sure you how much of my story you know, but in my 72 years there have been times I've been the same boat (pun intentional). My best advice is that you are in your prime, you have lots of years to maybe try again, or go after other goals. The successes, in the end, will way outnumber the disappointments. Never giving up is the secret.
Hey Charlie … We are so proud of you for undertaking this excellent adventure. Even with your shortened up version we can see it’s been a life-changing experience for you and only the beginning (or middle) of your kayaking exploits! The way you very cleverly engaged us followers with pictures, descriptions, videos and chat was really special …and you kept things short enough to keep up with. Well done, indeed. There are many quotes and sayings out there about trip ups along any path worth the time, effort and dedication … you’re in a long line of successful adventurers in physical, experiential, intellectual, spiritual and other journeys. They all begin with the first step. Hail, hail, Charlie as we await your next chapter. All the very best >>> Martha & Frank
Thank you, Martha & Frank. I've enjoyed sharing the journey with you. One of my recovery paddles will be a trip around Sheeps Head, so I might see you in Kilcrohane before the summer's over.
I’m so sorry for your injury! Heal well and I hope the next steps on your journey will see you back on the water next Summer. Please keep us posted. Thank you for your support of the MJF Foundation. Until next time, best wishes to you and your Mom.
Your health is indeed your wealth and you made the right call. As tough a call as I'm sure it was. I may have missed the post, but what was the reason behind going counterclockwise? Most routes and those who have previously attempted/succeded went clockwise. I am sure you will achieve the goal in the future, get patched up, get back training and I look forward to the next adventure!
Absolutely. Health has to be the priority. I ended up going back to Schull and starting the other way due to a serious weather delay on the West coast that's more or less still going on with the occasional borderline paddling day. If this injury hadn't taken me out, I'd be looking at calling it due to weather and not having enough days left to finish. Fingers crossed for better conditions next year! Thanks for following the journey.
So sorry. You did your best under very difficult circumstances. I knew the trip to urgent care was not a good sign. Rest, get well and heal. We all send best wishes and will continue to support the Michael Fox Foundation.
Right choice of course. Your courage, honesty and ability to describe your experiences have been amazing to see, you are an inspiration Charlie. Can't wait till you are recovered and back on the boat.
Oh my - such an emotional day for you, dear Charlie. I’m so sorry for the incredibly bad timing of your injury; however, you are absolutely making the right decision, a potentially life-saving decision. You’ll be back at this again, I can just feel it. Get yourself patched up and back to 100%. With the insight and confidence you’ve gained from even just these few short weeks, it is going to prove invaluable next time.
Can’t wait to see how this story unfolds. The journey isn’t over. It’s just a new chapter. 🙂❤️
Well wishes to you for your health. Keep us updated. We’ll want to hear that you’re doing okay.
Gretja & I are so amazed at all you have accomplished. So glad you are safe & wise. Heal well! Blessings for your continued commitment and support of Parkinson’s Disease research!🧡 🧡 🧡
Thank you Sue & Gretja for joining me on this adventure and for everything you do for Parkinson's research. Following your AT journey was an inspiration for me, and your fundraising advice was a huge help. I'm keeping the Team Fox page open and adding an update about calling this attempt. Trying again next year gives me more time to train and learn from the lessons of this trip and more time to get the word out for Team Fox. Stay tuned!
Your father and I totally support your decision. It was difficult I’m sure. Health comes first.
🥰
Thanks, mom.
I am sure you are disappointed, but taking care of your health is number one. We’ll be here when you come back. Thinking of you!
Thank you, Amy!
Charlie,
Adversity is just one of life’s challenges.
How we meet it determines one’s character.
My latest mantra and expectation is “CHARLIE STRONG “ !
Heal well, friend.
Paul Kirk
Thank you, Paul. The lessons from this trip continue as I work on patience in my recovery. It's all training!
