This is great storytelling, Charlie. We (readers) have only met you so far as an adult doing his kayaking thing around Ireland. We can't help but ask (even if we're not aware of it), "Why is Charlie doing this? Did the idea come out of nowhere? Did he just start kayaking last September?" All that changes when we see the pix of you and your brother and hear about "Don't drown" and ADHD. Things are starting to come together for us ... and I'm sure they will even more so as the saga unfolds. Outstanding, Mr. Charles!
Well, this comment made my day. Thank you, Steve for your kind words and keen insight! You've got me thinking about where I might want to pick up that thread later and fill in more of the backstory. As I'm writing these, I'm noticing different categories of post are emerging on their own: gear posts and nautical trivia are fun, but the "why?" posts give a chance to get personal. Lots of feels and nostalgia while writing this one.
What a beautiful and heartwarming story that shares with us your "early life" and yes, I can only agree with Steven (hello Steven!) that it is very helpful for a better understanding of the coming adventure that obviously started at your young age. The determination to do what you want really helps to overcome any kind of bad vibes. So just go ahead ... and make it happen!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the words of encouragement! Stay tuned for more of the backstory and some posts about moving back to Ireland with Dominique!

This is a terrific piece.
Thanks, dad!
